Commissioned Custom Illustrations

So, you want a Ros Hill original?

If there’s one thing I love to do, it’s creating one-of-a-kind original art. Art that shows an unusual perspective, and yes, often humorous.

I have done original commissioned artwork for many people, and never have the jobs become dull. In fact, it is the challenge of a commission piece that pushes me to do my best with each individual client.

All of my originals are created with acrylics on cold-press illustration board. The prices vary depending upon the size of the image and the time needed to complete the painting. I have created originals anywhere from 11” x 14” to 9 feet x 3 feet.

Commissioned originals start at $500.00.

If an original painting interests you, please feel free to call or write me anytime, and I’ll be happy to give you all the details.

"Manhattan Farmer"

Manhattan Farmer

This image was solely created for 2003 Art Expo in New York City.  While it was a post 9-11 piece, it was actually thought up as simply a humorous image tied to no particular event.  It is a skewed perspective of where skyscrapers come from (everyone just thinks they're built!).

My hunch about the popularity of the image was right on as everyone at the show enjoyed its ingenuity.  It was sold to a physician who lived in Manhattan, but had come from a farm in Indiana.  What a perfect match!

"On Saturday He Created The Stars"

On Saturday He Created the Stars

What can I say.  Sometimes you just know it's a gem.  This image has brought more smiles to more people and exactly as I had imagined.  I was in a Sunday school class, playing no attention to the speaker.  My head was down, as I was intently focusing on doodling hundreds upon hundreds of little circles on a scratch pad.  Then someone said, "God".  That was the spark that ignited the idea.  Quickly those little circles became golf balls, and before I knew it The Man was teeing up the first set of stars.

The original is owned by a woman in Pennsylvania, who hangs it above the toilet in the guest bathroom. (Now that's a compliment!) Actually, it's a great location, because she has lots of guests, and where do the guest eventually have to go?  That room is flushed with laughter!

 "Work In Progress"

2005 Texas Arts & Crafts Fair Poster

This piece was commissioned for the 2005 Texas Arts & Crafts Fair, held each year in Kerrville , Texas.  It is a huge show that brings in lots of wonderful artists.  The director was not happy with the entries he was receiving for the Fair's poster contest. So, he called me and basically said, "I need your humor to bail me out".  And so, the seed was planted and out grew the idea of cowboy being bucked by a longhorn steer.  As he makes his way upward, he holds a palate of paint and continues painting the sky.
